The Jagerita

The Jagerita

The Jagerita is a new twist on the classic Margarita. Instead of tequila, Jägermeister is used to give the drink an herbal, floral, spring/summery flavor.

The What Now?

The Jägerita! A Jägerita is a variant on the classic margarita except, but instead of tequila, Jägermeister is the main ingredient.

What’s Jägermeister?

So, for those of you that don’t recall the the pleasure nightmare of Jägerbombs and Jäger shots in college, Jägermeister is a German herbal liqueur that’s kind of synonymous with drunk sorority girls and frat bros. In fact every time I hear the word Jäger, I think of this video:

Fuckin Jägerbombs. Jägerbombs. Jägerbombs. Fuckin Jägerbombs. Jägerbombs. Jägerbombs. Jägerbombs!

Oh, Broskis. Jägermeister is usually associated with gross shots and nasty hangovers and most people are disgusted with the thought of it. However, I bet you didn’t know there are some real uses for a Jägermeister? It’s a light and floral aperitif made with 56 different fruits, roots, herbs, and spices including citrus peel, anise, poppy seeds, saffron, ginger, juniper berries, and ginseng. Ya hear that, 56 herbs and spices!? Suck on that, Colonel Sanders.

So, whatever you may put Jägermeister in will take on a very floral flavor. Enter the Jägerita. A sweet, tart, floral cocktail that is perfect for spring and summer. Actually, it’s pretty awesome all year round. I could go on and on about it but I’m going to let cocktail king Jeffrey Morgenthaller explain it.

I’m Down! What Do I Need To Make A Jägerita?

Well first thing’s first. Head on down to the ol’ liquor store and pick yourself up some Jägermeister. You’ll also need a bottle of Cointreau, which is an orange liqueur. Lastly, stop by the grocery store to pick up about 5-10 limes and some blue agave syrup.

WTF Is Blue Agave Syrup?

The original version of the Jägerita calls for simple syrup to sweeten the drink. I wanted to keep this somewhat tequila like. Tequila is a liquor made from the blue agave plant, so we are going to use blue agave syrup. You can get it anywhere, literally. I was in a CVS the other day and saw blue agave syrup on sale. Amazon also has it. I got mine from Trader Joe’s but really any brand will do. They’re all pretty decent.

All you need to do is add all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake for 15 seconds. Strain into a coupé or martini glass and BAM, Jägeritaville.
