The Classic Negroni: Your New Favorite Cocktail

The Classic Negroni is the perfect cocktail for any and all occasions.

#NegroniWeek

Heeeeeeeey guys and gals! Guess what? It’s Negroni Week!

What’s A Negroni?

A Negroni is the perfect cocktail. Its super simple composition consists of gin, sweet vermouth, and an Italian bitters called Campari.

campari

Campari is a liqueur made with a citrusy, bitter taste. It’s much more complex than that and must be experienced to really understand the flavor. The thing about Campari is that its flavors are so complex that different flavors can be brought out depending on the mixer.

The second part of a Negroni is gin. Just gin. You might think there’s nothing special about the clear liquor that everyone mixes with tonic water but it’s much more than that. Gin is a spirit flavored with juniper berries. You can really taste the juniper berries in good gin.

Lastly (but not leastly?) a Negroni is made with sweet vermouth. The sweetness of the vermouth is the perfect balance to the bitterness of Campari.

When those powers combine, they make the Captain Negroni! Wait that gives me an idea (stay tuned).

What’s Negroni Week?

Alright, so Negroni Week is a celebration of all things Negroni hosted by Imbibe Magazine. Every June, Imbibe gets a ton of bars together to participate and make their most creative Negronis. For every one they sell, a dollar goes to the charity of their choice. You can find a list of the charities here

Ooh! Who’s Participating?

You guys should go out this week to any of the bars on this list, drink some creating AF Negronis, and help out a charity.

Now I’d just like to emphasize that I am in no way affiliated with Imbibe, Campari, or any gin company. I just really like Negronis and love Imbibe’s mission.

What If I Just Want To Stay In and Watch Netflix?

Well then stay home, snuggle up with your boo, and make your own (and hopefully drop a buck to any charity of your choice).
