Dried Cranberry Recipe: Cranberry Rice Krispies Treats

Check out this spin on the original Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Treats recipe. Cranberry Rice Krispies Treats are the perfect, easy, no bake dessert to bring to a Christmas Potluck or just to devour on your own. This dried cranberry recipe even has fruit in it…so it’s healthy. Right? Eh not really.

I Love Rice Krispies Treats!

Right? How could butter, marshmallow, and crispy rice cereal be bad? Did you know the original Rice Krispies recipe didn’t even call for marshmallows? Up until the official Rice Krispie treats were invented in 1939 by two Kellogg’s employees named Malitta Jensen and Mildred Day, things like molasses, were mixed with puffed rice which resulted in a much stickier, less ooey gooey treat like the marshmallow Rice Krispies Treats we love today.

How To Make Rice Krispies Treats

It’s so easy to make Rice Krispies Treats that even a little kid could do it. Seriously, just melt a stick of butter in a large pot. Add mini marshmallows and let them melt. Then Just add Rice Krispies treats (aka crisp rice cereal). Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13 pan, let cool, and then cut into squares.

Variations On the Rice Krispies Treats Recipe

Of course there are endless variations. You could change out the cereal and use Cocoa Krispies for chocolate ones, Lucky Charms, or Cap’n Crunch. You could do Nutella Rice Krispies Treats , Salted Brown Butter Rice Krispies Treats, or even cheesy Rice Krispie’s Treats! Well here’s a tart, fruity take on the classic Rice KrispiesTreats Recipe. I also love dried cranberries so adding them to Rice Krispies Treats is kind of the perfect dried cranberry recipe.

How to Make Cranberry Rice Krispies Treats

Just like the original recipe, melt a stick of putter in a large pot over medium heat. Protip: the butter will melt faster if you chop it into smaller chunks. Add the mini marshmallows. You know what they are right? Those mini marshmallows that you add to hot cocoa. You should always use mini marshmallows for Rice Krispies Treats because the smaller ones melt better. Add vanilla extract and lemon extract to enhance the flavors.  Then, remove the mixture from heat and fold in the Rice Krispies Cereal and dried cranberries. Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13 baking pan and allow to cool. Cut into squares and enjoy the fruits of this dried cranberry recipe.
