Jack and Rose? Like Titanic?
That’s the first place my mind went. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if that’s where the character names came from, but I have no way of asking the writers of the movie Titanic, so we’ll just have to speculate. What we don’t have to speculate on is whether or not Jack could have survived on that door.
We’ll you’ll never want to let go of this cocktail because it’s so damn delicious.
Where Does The Name Jack Rose Come From?
There are several origin stories out there for the Jack Rose. The most shared story is that it was named after a gambler and murderer, known as Bald Jack Rose. It’s an entirely plausible theory, however, there’s another that it was invented by a Word Champion Mixologist in Newark, New Jersey named Joseph Rose invented it. Either way, the first documented appearance of the Jack Rose Cocktail was in Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises.
A Jack Rose is a simple, 3 ingredient cocktail made with apple brandy, lemon juice and grenadine. This Jack Rose, however, is made with Calvados.
What Is Calvados?
Calvados is simply apple (or pear) brandy that comes from the Normandy region of France, which is known for its apple orchards. Each region has it’s own method of distilling calvados, however it is always aged in oak casks. Just like fine wine, the longer calvados ages the better the liquor.
